Over the years, there have been countless ways for people to help support the ministry. We’re grateful for the monthly support team who gives to help keep the foundation of Harvest rolling along. We couldn’t do it without these folks.
We have also been grateful for those who give once a year gifts – they always seem to come at the right time.
And then we have also hosted various other ways for people to take notice of Harvest Ministry and invest in it – such as the spring banquets we hosted for several years.
We thought we’d try something new this year and host a facebook live event to share a bit about Harvest Ministry.
We have a goal to raise $10,000 as we march toward the 25th summer – hard to believe!
Here are the reason behind inviting you to give:
The mission is still great, the calling is still clear and the opportunities for each student are endless.
Through camps, conferences, retreat and special events, we have the privilege of standing before tons of students each year inviting them to follow Jesus.
Young adults still need a clear pathway for hands-on ministry in the church!
Since Harvest began, we have invited young adults to serve on ministry teams. These groups travel, use their gifts of music, tech and other skills, to assist camps and leaders in sharing the gospel message. Though Harvest Teams don’t often preach, we are the assistants to the message. Over 250 young adults have served on summer teams traveling to camp after camp since 1996. There’s no better way to learn the art of humble ministry service than summer ministry in this way. It’s here you learn that relationships carry so much weight, the music is a tool and not the end all be all, and that stepping out of your comfort zone and allow God to awaken in you a desire and heart for His church. For years, the summer has been a mission for team members, but with the changing culture and students becoming more concerned with debt ( a good thing) we have sensed the need to give a stipend to ministry leaders! We’re so grateful for the hundreds of Harvest Team Members who have paved the way to create this mission mindset – they have invested so much! And we don’t think the mission feel will go away, but we just want to add the blessing of being of clearing that one more obstacle that may prevent the right students from participating. For the summer of 2020, we plan to provide these stipends to team leaders.
Students and church leaders are still responding to large conferences!
We still believe getting people together for large events can have so much impact! There are more challenges with this than ever – but just because the calendar of a teen’s life is too full doesn’t mean we should cancel the potentially more important faith catalyst of middle school and high school! It’s the day in and day out disicpleship of the home and the home church that really carries the joyful burden of raising up students in the faith, but these special events are one of the ingredients to round it out. During these conferences, we desire to connect with students, invite speakers and leaders to share, encourage parents and leaders in faith, equip them with tools for following God’s word and developing prayer lives, and in general raisinging up the future church. This can’t obviously all happen in one weekend – so we just keep at it. We do charge a registration fee for most of these events. It’s important for these reason – 1) it helps cover the cost, 2) it gives it value for parents (believe it or not, some people won’t attend “free” things 3) it helps people commit to the event and come with expectations. But we don’t want to keep raising the costs… so we are raising money to help pay for speakers, leaders and resources.
Here’s a look at the 2020 conferences and speakers
- Fire-Up High School Conference – Speaker: DJ Dangerfield from Chanute, KS
- The Light Kids Conference (three locations) – Harvest Team and all new Shout Co. Puppets
- Girls Conference – Becoming – Rebekah Bled from Tulsa, Oklahoma
- The Well – for youth workers – Mark Oestreicher from San Diego, CA
- Ignition Middle School Conference – Speaker: TBD
- Awakening Worship Conference – Andi Rozier, Vertical Worship
Recording and Resources are another way we can help share
If for some reason we go over the goal, there are just as many important things on the bench ready to go… including resources and recordings. Through the Harvest Band recordings, kids songs and instrumental prayer music, there’s no telling how far the message has gotten. A few years back, we spun the Harvest Resouce Blog for church leaders into Tim Price Blog, as a strategy for connecting personally with church leaders. There are about 6000 page views per month on this blog. We recently just created The Worship Leader Toolbox and this fledgling site is growing. There’s still a need for more songs, more videos, and more digital connections as we keep changing to reach students in our day. But there’s also the old fashioned stuff that still seems to be work too – like newsletters, invitations and thank you notes in the mailbox outside the doors of people to whom we are connected. Each and every one of these little things cost money. It’s not easy to raise money for things as non-glamrous as mailing permit fees, vista print orders, recording studio time, or WordPress blog annual fees, but they are all part of the formula and strategy Harvest uses to fulfill its mission – to GO OUT AND RAISE UP.
We know things are for a season and we’re cool with that.
We know eventually these websites will become outdated, the van will be dilapidated, the life cycle of these conferences and events will come to and the music will be vintage memories. But for now, we want to be faithful in the present. When Harvest first began in the summer of 1996, we often said, “you may forget the name Harvest and you may forget our names – but we want you to remember Jesus and his love for you!” In some ways it was easy to say that – we didn’t even have a group name that summer! Things with Harvest have definitely become a little more institutionalized (bless our hearts), but it’s still our prayer. The good news is that there are things that will never fade away: God’s word and the impact of transformed hearts and lives of students who grow up to become pastors, missionaries, and leaders in the church – faithfully following Jesus as they live out the faith in our world today.
Thank you for joining us in the Harv-A-Thon today! And thanks for reading some of these goals and reasons behind raising $10k!
